Guard interval

In telecommunications, guard intervals are used to ensure that distinct transmissions do not interfere with one another, or otherwise cause overlapping transmissions. These transmissions may belong to different users (as in TDMA) or to the same user (as in OFDM).

The purpose of the guard interval is to introduce immunity to propagation delays, echoes and reflections, to which digital data is normally very sensitive.

Examples of use of guard room
1. A transmitter of the ISAF–run radio was attacked in the northeastern Badakhshan province, wounding a guard and damaging a guard room.
2. "There are American soldiers inside the collapsed guard room, but we do not know whether any are wounded or killed," he said.
3. The man told Mustafa to stay in the guard room, then walked into the center in downtown Baghdad and joined dozens of other gunmen in the kidnapping of the head of Iraq‘s Olympic Committee and more than 30 other people who were attending a sports conference, police and witnesses said.
4. A senior Afghan police officer, Muhammad Naim, told the BBC that one man had been shot dead and two more injured after the crowd burned the guard room of the provincial reconstruction team (PRT). He said it was not the police who shot the protester and that the demonstrators were moving towards the Nato troops when the death occurred.
5. Nothing changes here. – Alan, Birmingham, UK Having served for more than 40 years in the infantry in various roles, I find it very hard to understand, firstly, how recruits or any other unauthorised person) were in a position to obtain ammunition, and, secondly, if they were on patrolling sentry duty why they were not paired with at least one senior soldier, and if not on patrolling sentry duty, why were they permitted to leave the Guard Room where they should remain in case of need.
